Review: La Bonne Vie Blueberry and Vanilla Goat Cheese

The deli section is probably my favorite place to go in any supermarket. There is always something new and delicious to try. If you’re a frequent entertainer, it’s very wise to stock up and keep a few varieties of cheeses and meats in the fridge to make for a quick deli platter. Many affordable supermarket delis actually have a wide selection of gourmet and local varieties. Don’t be afraid to take a quick look the next time you’re at your average grocery store, you’ll be surprised at what they have to offer. My most recent purchase was from the deli section at your good ol’ Safeway supermarket. I was really excited to see something that I hadn’t tried yet - La Bonne Vie Blueberry & Vanilla Goat Cheese. I am a huge fan of goat cheese and I am especially a fan of any flavored varieties so I immediately threw this sucker into my cart and took it home. This cheese retails for only $6 so it is definitely an affordable product.

The review: The first way that I taste tested this product was by itself in order to really taste its raw flavor without any accessorizing. Goat cheese is a very mild flavored cheese and I think the way the cheese log is rolled in the blueberry and vanilla flavor is so perfect. This allows you to add as much or as little of the outside flavoring as your taste desires. The flavor of the outside coating is very reminiscent of balsamic vinegar, due to the sweet, tart and almost sour flavor of the dried blueberries. If you are a balsamic vinegar addict like I am - you will love this flavor. I love how they utilized dried blueberries instead of fresh - it really adds a nice texture. The next way I tested out this cheese was with some delicious Open Nature Rosemary Wafer Thins. (also from Safeway) Blueberry and rosemary is always a good match so I thought these would be a good pair. If you’re planning on giving this cheese a try, I would definitely recommend these wafers to go along because the combo is amazing! The creamy cheese creates a yummy contrast against the crispy wafers. All in all, I loved this product and will definitely be purchasing again. This made the perfect midnight snack and I can't wait to test this product out in future entertaining. It is really an impressive looking and tasting combination yet it is so easy, just two products.
